There have been some pretty bad monument or memorial ideas that I have seen over the last few years. Having said that, I have also seen and been inspired by some really wonderful memorial ideas. Ask yourself these questions: What then makes the difference? Is it "my" personal preference that gets in the way or are some of these ideas really bad for a reason? Also, are the good memorial ideas really good for a specific reason?
In this article, I am going to address and answer these questions by what I will use as something I call the "template for success" with regards to finding and executing the absolute best in memorial ideas.
This guide to success was composed by asking a hand-full of unique questions to all kinds of people, including: partners, friends and (especially) clients. I am confident that as you read these questions that you will find them somewhat logical, if not obvious. Whatever we do in life as human beings, there always exists a natural tendency to want answers quickly. Consider these tendencies as you discuss these questions and search for well determined answers.
First question (1): what is the purpose of the memorial? Monuments and memorials can serve a whole spectrum of purposes. The key in answering these questions is to figure out and determine what the purpose of your memorial will be. Is it educational, motivational or purely functional? Is the purpose something else? I would suggest that you spend some good time thinking through and discussing as to what the answer to this question might be for you or your committee.
The next or second question, part of the template of success with regards to memorial ideas is: What emotion or emotions are you wishing to capture? Now, this can be a challenging question as human emotions are difficult to define. But, the more time you spend discussing this specific question with your organization, the more effective or even better said, the more powerful the reactions to your memorial idea will be in seasons to come.
Final question. Ask yourself the following: what is the memorial target audience? Some find that this question is the easier one to answer. Make sure to consider the following in your search to determine what the memorial audience will be: is your target audience made up out of people of a younger or older age? Are they females or males? Make sure to get this one right also.
Whatever you do in life, and whenever you execute your ideas, make sure to keep the end goal in mind. These questions and answers given to you above, can help you determine and carry out good memorial ideas.
